Brand New Products On The Website

I’ve just put 10 new promotional products on the website and there’s a few that stand out for me.

Pocket Basic Notebook

The pocket basic notebook with pen is a fantastic product. Essentially, it’s a pad with a hole in it where you can keep your pen. The best thing about this is that you can match the branding on the pad to the pen giving a great coordinated feel to your promotion – and you should never lose your pen!

Non Slip Mobile Phone Holder

The non-slip phone holder is a bit of a star as well. You can literally put it on a flat wall and things will still stick to it like glue. It’s got a great branding area and will last for years. It’s the kind of thing people will show to their friends, the sticking qualities are that impressive.

They are my two favourites. This isn’t to say that the others aren’t any good, they’re great. They were chosen by our sales team from an array of hundreds of different products and were the ones that got the biggest response from our customers.


In case you haven’t seen them yet, there’s also a load of new promotional World Cup products on the site as well including footballs, face paint and the soon to be ubiquitous vuvuzelas. If you don’t know what they are yet, you soon will! I watched a fair amount of the Confederations Cup, held in South Africa a year or so ago, on TV and the noise of the vuvuzela was clear to hear. They have a central part in South African football culture, much like the Samba drums in Brazil, so if you want to be a part of the crowd, you’ll need one!

Another ‘in case you haven’t seen’ is that our Big Promo Gift Show website has been launched. The show itself is being held on 26th May and is based on a World Cup theme. We’ll be joined by Nobby Stiles and Peter Shilton, we’ll have seminars from Cliff Quicksell – one of the U.S’s most respected speakers in the promotional merchandise industry – and over 10,000 products on display from the old favourites to the new and innovative.

It’s only a pen….

If there is one word that does NOT sum up this industry it’s ONLY. There is nothing only about a pen, a polo shirt, a ruler…..if I do a search within Google for printed pen I get 199,000 results, if I search for printed umbrella I get 219,000 results. That’s not to say there are 219k different umbrellas but there are hundreds without doubt and on pens there are hundreds of thousands of different options. What I’m getting at I suppose is that for the person not in the know it is a mammoth task to find the right pen….at the right price…..with the right leadtime for their event. That’s where we come in. We have knowledge in this industry dating back over 20 years, we know what we are doing. We live by the ethos that there is ALWAYS a solution and we have to place the right product that suits your needs. My boss, Lloyd, is always telling us that anyone can sell a pen or a mug – what we’re trying to offer is a solution to your needs not just a product that will make us a sale there and then. If we do it right then the product we place will be so good that you keep coming back to repeat the order.

BEWARE!! – of the cheap price

Since the credit crunch came to the public eye a lot has happened to this industry and not all for the better. My feelings on the past 18 months are mainly that the business is still out there but the companies taking x product are wanting x product again just cheaper or they are wanting an alternative that once again is cheaper. This is fine and we’ll do everything we can for every customer or potential customer but somewhere along this price path there has to be a limit to what can be done.

Recently I worked on a job for USB memory sticks, the product was roughly £4 and my competition was selling at £3, that’s 25% cheaper than my price, I’m buying this product direct from the factory in China and I’m bringing it in using our own freight company and I’d be more than happy to in the first instance be making 25% let alone wipe off 25% in price – so how is it done? This is my concern and on this product I know how it’s done, the product is compromised, you can only go so long dragging down the price of the product before you get to absolute cost value so to get cheaper you have to drive down the quality of the product. The USB has to have recycled memory so you end up with a high failure rate, the cotton shopper is made in 4oz cotton instead of 5oz and it’s not interlock stitched so when you put a bit of weight in it the handles tear off, the pen has a refill that’s only a quarter full and the end result is that it the end user has a pen that runs out in no time. So how does this reflect on the company giving away the product and of course the company supplying it (us)…it reflects badly.

LSi was not built on this and I know that our MD, Lloyd Simpson, would simply not allow this company to go forward in this way. Our aim is to keep our customers for life not for one order that makes us good profit. We’d rather just walk away from orders like this.

So why the blog? Well I want any customer or any potential customer to know what LSi are about, I will hold my hands up and tell anyone that we’re not the cheapest company out there but I don’t want to be. I want to be the best and I want to be the best value for money for all our contacts and we will NEVER compromise the product.

Be it 10 USB sticks or 50,000 polo shirts, we’re here to help and advise. myself and my team are always available.

Big Promo Gift Show 2010

Why did I agree to this again?? Only joking, love the variety and challenge that organising our show brings to my daily role. As well as trying to be an MD, accountant and a sales person, for the next 3 months I am also an event organiser – love it!!

Only problem is that the date we have picked falls quite conveniently 3 days after my 40th Birthday!! So I’ll either be majorly hungover or extremely pee’d off that I’ve hit the big 40!! Worryingly is that Cheryl (wife) has been a little quiet about the timing of the show – I think it may have disrupted her plans – don’t know what shes planning – maybe nothing knowing my luck.

Anyway – things are hotting up on the show – we cant give too much away at this point – but as it’s held 2 weeks before the World Cup  - it will be based on a football theme – not forgetting the reason we are doing the show, but we are pleased to announce that at least 1 England football legend will be appearing on the day – possibly 2 depending on work commitments. We have also secured the services of one of the leading seminar speakers from the States – who will be delivering seminars on Promotional Merchandise and how to get the best from it throughout the day.

As if that wasn’t enough, the floor plan has just been agreed and gives us 68 supplier stands this year – an increase of 24 on last year, giving us a greater variety of products from some of the leading suppliers to the UK Promotional Merchandise industry. Basically if they arent appearing at this show – I doubt they will be worth dealing with.

All in all, the feedback from last year’s show from both customers and suppliers has been phenomenal – so we had to do it again – but bigger and better – and it will be.
